How is class represented in this scene?
In this scene of eastenders we can see that working classes are represented within the families of walford. They represent the Bartenders and the caterers who both clearly have families who are the 'mitchells','masoods' and the 'beales'.We can judge ths from the overall impressio of the people in seuence is that they all seem to have some sort of discreet problem with each other and that they also have a lot of tension between each other. The response of the overall impression of the the people in the scene is negative becuase everything they seem to say is negative or bad, and there is a lot of conflict particularly within the families. We can see this when Zainab accuses her husband Masood of cheating on her with jane beale. This represents the class of Zainab as a female quite low thinking she has some sort of authority and power and also control of accusing her husband with the little evidence that she has.
I think that the class they represented Zainab in is qite offence to other females wo watch it, as maybe maes who watch eastenders will gain the perception that this is how all females are.Within the sequence we can see that different types of ethnicities are represented within eastenders which are asian and white in the sequence. This shows an sense of realism (berisimilatude) instead of just having one race represented within the sequence.By different ethnicities being represented it shows us that the catering service is and multi-cultural catering service and the community of walford is also multi-cultural.As an whole the community as a whole is represented as working class families that have blue color jobs and are doing manual labour and that none of them seem to leave the domestic enviroment apart from one person(Libby) who is off to Oxford University.
We can see that the community as an whole are not people that have gone to university or taken their education to the next level or work in the city an it is an typical prception of the easend with the graffiti on the walls which you ar emost likely to see in the reality of the east end..For the simple fact that they are all almost blue color workers i think thats what makes them join together and get to know each other in the area for conflict to be brought between different families. The characters costumes and surroundings suggest that they are quite layed back they are not of a proper high working class or maybe even a middle class asin the sequence we see them wearing casual clothing and kitchen uniform. They are more of blue colors, who work in the market, therefore they can't wear suits as the type of job that they do involves them getting dirty and so they wear their own csual clothing. The dialogue of the scene between zainab and masood is very aggresive and it has a lot of fued and anger within it. As they are both angry . One is angry at the simple fact that she thinks her husband is cheating on her with jane and the other angry at the fact the wife is accusing him and jane of having an affair.
The clues that gives us about the reprsentation of the characters is that they are very upront and outspoken. There are plenty of two shots used when there are dialogues.Showing the characters facial expressions.Like the two shot between Peggy and Joel shows the unity between them two. However there is also an two shot with the caterers between Zainab and Masood showing the conflict and anger between them both. There is also an up close shot of Syed showing the guilt on his face as his mother and his father are arguein becuase zainab is accusing her husband of cheating on her .Once again there are overshoulder shots of zainab and masood showing th overshoulder of conflict but this time it includes jane where masood and jane are standing side by side looking towards zainab from an over shoulder shot.
In conclusion we can see that class is represented in various ways in eastenders within the sequence. Through the argument between zainab and masood we can see how a womans class is represented and how a mans class is represented. We can see how the class of the community is represented with the graffiti on the wall and the casual clothed people around the square. We can see the class through the typical 'quck drink' at the pub. All of this just shows how the life of the working class families are within the community and what they class is of the way that they dress to go to work.
